Prime Factor Math Circle and School of Programming

“Mathematical Adventures and Creative Computing” Summer Camps!!!

This summer, Prime Factor Math Circle is offering two weeks of exciting week-long  half-day summer camps for elementary school students entering grades 2-5. Both morning and afternoon options are available.

In our summer camps children will be busy with two activities:
  • Exploring the fun and exciting world of extracurricular mathematics
  • Getting acquainted with foundations of computer programming

What kind of mathematics will the students be working on at the camp?

Through problem-solving, engaging stories, hands-on explorations,  discussions and games, students will become familiar with a variety of topics beyond regular school curriculum. Some of the topics that we intend to explore are: cryptography and ciphers, number systems, logical problems, word problems, parity, strategic games, number puzzles, and elements of combinatorics. Children will get introduced to the ideas of mathematical reasoning, logic, and mathematical proof and will practice new problem solving approaches.

What will the Creative Computing part of the camp be about?

The students will design, create and explore using Scratch, an educational programming language for children. Students will start from learning Scratch programming environment, and will spend the rest of the week working on animation stories, patterns designs, and simple computer games. Through these creative projects, students will learn important computational concepts and practices.
