Coach Andrey Yatsenko is a long-time math teacher and an experienced chess player. He also is proficient in many other strategic games. After retiring from a successful career in software development, Andrey decided that it is time for him to start doing what he really enjoys – teaching kids. Invite your children to join our Chess class for a trial lesson with coach Andrey - they will love it.
Chess to Enjoy programs invite young chess players who already have a complete understanding of the rules and some playing experience to come and develop their skills. Each lesson is organized as a combination of a short lecture accompanied by a set of analyze-and-solve-together exercises and followed by practice games in the second part.
The teacher's approach is to foster love and appreciation for chess as an exciting, logical game while using it as a tool to develop strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
Level 1: Students will practice important tactical patterns, mating techniques and pawn endings, learn basic opening ideas, and deepen their overall understanding of the game.
Level 2: On this level students will get familiar with more advanced tactical themes and patterns, further deepen their knowledge of different types of endgames, learn some opening theory and important pawn structures. Recommended as a continuation of the level 1 program and also open to new students.
